What exactly is a Hardware Security Key?

As of November 29, 2025, Nomura Securities made it mandatory for users of our online service and asset management app “NOMURA” (NOMURA App) to authenticate using “passkeys.”  Previously, Passkey enrollment required installing the NOMURA App on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, equipped with Passkey functionality. Nomura Securities is now changing this process to allow passkey enrollment not only via the NOMURA app but also on a PC.  Additionally, alongside this change, we will support hardware security keys that store passkeys on physical hardware device, in addition to platform authenticators that sync via the cloud, such as iCloud Keychain and Google Password Manager. Hardware security keys perform passkey authentication by either plugging the key into a PC's or smartphone's USB port or tapping it against a smartphone (NFC). Stored passkey information is encrypted and cannot be extracted or copied. Furthermore, as officially verified compatible models on our online services, we will offer the following Yubico FIDO2 protocol-compliant hardware security keys through our special sale on this site:

What happens if I lose my security key?

  • Don't worry, you're protected in this situation.
  • If you lose your security key, you can still regain access to your account using another authorized sign-in method (logging in with your account number).
  • Once you have regained access, remove the lost key from your settings and register a new key.
  • Please contact Nomura Securities for details.
